Plumbing — Indoor & Outdoor
Mel One assesses Brisbane plumbing and drainage enquiries for indoor repairs and outdoor pipework. Where regulated work is accepted, the appropriately licensed plumber or drainer, written scope, availability and ETA are confirmed for the individual job before work begins.

What's included
Send the job details if the required work is not listed so the team can confirm whether it fits the current service scope.
- Leaking taps, mixers & shower heads
- Toilet repair, replacement & cistern issues
- Blocked drains, sinks & basins
- Hot water system repair & replacement
- Dishwasher & washing machine connections
- Outdoor taps, hose bibs & garden pipework
- Downpipes, stormwater & rainwater tank fittings
- Burst pipe repair & emergency assessment
Start with the fault, then agree on the repair
Explain where water appears, whether the issue happens constantly or only when a fixture is used, and whether one outlet or several are affected. A dripping tap, a leaking pipe connection and a drain that backs up require different checks; what you notice does not by itself confirm which part needs replacing.
Ask for the initial assessment and proposed work to be clear before repair or replacement starts. For a hot water enquiry, share the visible model plate and the fault history. For drainage, distinguish clearing an obstruction from further investigation or pipe repair; confirm any extra stage separately.
What to include in a plumbing quote request
Send a wide photo of the affected fixture or accessible pipework, a closer photo of the visible fault and any model details. Note access restrictions, previous repairs and whether the water supply can be isolated normally. Do not remove covers or dismantle equipment to take a photograph.
We explain the proposed assessment, labour, parts or supplied fixture, access, removal and refitting, disposal and surface reinstatement. The scope identifies confirmed items, those needing inspection and the responsible licensed trade for any accepted regulated plumbing or drainage work.
Decisions to make before agreeing the repair
The drain was cleared recently but is blocking again. Should I just book another clearance?
A repeat blockage is a reason to compare the affected section and the earlier findings before authorising the same work again. Clearing an obstruction restores flow at that time; it does not by itself establish the condition of the pipe. Tell us whether the same fixture is affected or water is now backing up through several outlets.
We review the previous invoice or report, how long the improvement lasted and any retained camera footage with the responsible plumber or drainer. A planned camera inspection can help identify a pipe restriction or defect, but access, standing water and remaining obstruction affect what can be seen. The inspection and any necessary clearing should have an agreed purpose and scope.
If a removable obstruction is found in an otherwise serviceable section, clearing and addressing what enters the drain may suit. A confirmed damaged or displaced section needs a repair proposal tied to its location and extent. Recurrence alone does not prove tree roots, a broken pipe or a need to excavate the whole run.
We explain attendance and clearing separately from investigation or camera work, pipe repair, access or excavation and surface reinstatement. These enquiries sit within our existing plumbing service. The appropriately licensed contractor, equipment, availability and accepted scope are confirmed for the actual job.
Send the dates of earlier clearances, affected fixtures, when the symptoms returned and any reports already available. Photograph visible effects from a clean, safe position; do not open a sewer access point for a picture. Stop using affected fixtures if wastewater is backing up, keep people clear of contaminated water and arrange prompt plumbing assistance.
The mixer still leaks after a new cartridge. Do I need a whole new tap?
Not automatically. A new cartridge only helps if it suits the mixer and the leak is in the part it controls. The cartridge is the internal part that regulates flow and mixes hot and cold water. A drip from the outlet, water around the handle and a leak beneath the sink need different checks.
We start with the make or model, the location of the leak and the details of the part already fitted. Diameter alone is not enough: cartridge base profile and locating details also need to match. The responsible plumber checks compatibility, installation and the condition of the retained tap before choosing another part.
A compatible service part may allow the existing mixer to remain when its body and connections are suitable. Replacement becomes a different option where the retained body is damaged, a compatible part cannot be obtained or the complete repair scope does not suit the condition. Repeated tightening is not a diagnosis, and we do not ask you to dismantle the mixer to obtain enquiry photos.
For repair, compare assessment, the correct part and fitting. For replacement, also include the new mixer, under-sink access, removal and reconnection, disposal and any separate surrounding repairs. We can discuss either scope through the plumbing enquiry process; regulated work is assigned to the appropriately licensed contractor.
Send a full view of the tap, where water is visible, any accessible brand mark and the packaging or part number for the new cartridge. State whether it leaks with the handle off or only during use, and whether it is still in use. Keep any original product or installation paperwork for the plumber to review.
